The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has swiftly condemned and dissociated itself from unauthorized political comments made by a supernumerary police officer regarding the upcoming Edo State gubernatorial elections. A video featuring the individual, dressed in a Spy Police uniform, has been circulating on social media platforms.
According to the NPF, the officer in question is not a regular member of the force but a privately employed Supernumerary (Spy) Police Officer. Although trained by the Nigeria Police, these officers are not on the NPF payroll and do not take the oath of allegiance, allowing them to belong to any political party and exercise freedom of expression.
However, the NPF has expressed strong disapproval of the individual’s decision to wear his official SPY uniform while engaging in political activities. The force has arrested the officer for further investigation, emphasizing that his comments do not reflect the views of the Nigeria Police.
In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi reaffirmed the NPF’s commitment to professionalism, neutrality, and the rule of law. The public has been urged to disregard the officer’s statements and trust in the force’s dedication to upholding its principles.
This incident serves as a reminder of the NPF’s strict adherence to its code of conduct and its determination to maintain a neutral stance in political matters.
