A Lagos State Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba has ordered the remand of a truck driver, Adeniji Odubade, in prison for allegedly diverting a 40ft container loaded with fabrics (Ankara) worth N150 million.

The defendant is facing a two-count charge bordering on stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge when read to him.

The prosecutor, Mr Emmanuel Ajayi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 22 at 11.00 p.m.

The prosecutor said that the defendant and others at large diverted a 40ft container belonging to AUH Global Resources Ltd. in contravention of Sections 280 and 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs I. O. Raji, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N800,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She added that the sureties must be gainfully employed and have evidence of two years’ tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She however ordered that the driver should be remanded pending perfection of his bail application.

The magistrate thereafter adjourned the case until Nov. 11 for further hearing.
