Ahead of its election scheduled for December, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, on Wednesday adopted and inaugurated a five-man Credentials/Screening Committee saddled with the responsibility of organising and conduct a hitch-free election.

Members of the committee, who were unanimously nominated were subsequently adopted by members present at the August Congress of the union.

The committee members’ names were, however, forwarded to the National Secretariat of the union for ratification at the end of the Congress.

When the committee members’ names were presented at the congress, Mr Olamide Adeniji of the Information Chapel moved the motion for its adoption, while Mr Dapo Ibikunle of Inspiration FM Chapel, seconded the motion.

The committee would be chaired by Dupe Fehintola of BCOS Chapel; while Nurudeen Alimi of the Nigerian Tribune would serve as the Secretary.

Other members of the committee were Remi Afonja of the NTA Chapel; Temilola Akarah of the Information Chapel and Khalid Imran of the Oke-Ogun Information Chapel.

Inaugurating the committee, Mr Bayo Akamo, a National Trustee of the union, called on the committee members to discharge their duties without bias.

Akamo said that their nomination and adoption by the congress, “is a true test of their integrity”, which he said, must not, for whatever reason, be dented.

In his remarks, Alhaji Ademola Babalola, the state council Chairman, urged the committee members to be diligent, while carrying out the task before them.

Babalola said, “As all eyes are now on you, it is expected of the committee members to conduct a credible, free and fair election for the union.”

Responding on behalf of the committee, Fehintola appreciated the congress for its confidence in the committee members, promising that they would not to let the union down.

She pledged total commitment of the members to “ensure effective delivery of the task before us”.

Fehintola assured the congress that the confidence reposed in the committee members would not be taken for granted.

She further assured members of the union of fair and equal treatment of all aspirants toward the conduct of a free, fair and peaceful election comes source.(NAN)
