The grand event drew a huge enthusiastic crowd from across the state in particular and the entire South-east.

The presence of the charismatic presidential candidate of the Labour Party in February’s disputed presidential election, HE Peter Obi, added panache to the event.
On ground too were Hon. Tony Nwulu, Achonu’s running mate, and Hon. Chime Nzeribe, DG Senator Athan Campaign Organisation
Other dignitaries included Dr. Alex Otti, Executive Governor of Abia State; Barrister Julius Abure, LP National Chairman; Distinguished Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi, Imo East Senatorial District; Hon. Sir Tochukwu Okere, member, representing Owerri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives; Hon Dr. Matthew Nwogu, member, representing Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency; Comrade Kennedy Ahanotu, LP National Youth Leader; All LP NWC Members; All Imo LP SWC Members and Stakeholders and all support groups led by Ambassador Theo Nwabueze
Chief Coordinator, Concerned Imo Influencers, the foremost support group for the ‘Take Back Imo’ project.

The unprecedented mammoth that thronged the Kanu Nwankwo Sports Centre, Bishop’s Court, IMSU venue of the event is anything to go by, Achonu undoubtedly is on his way to occupy the Imo seat of government, Douglas House.
Obi urged the people to vote for Achonu and expressed optimism that the Labour Party would take over the reins of governance in Imo State after the November poll.

Achonu reeled out his programme for the state, including restoration of security, infrastructural development, promotion of tourism, education and skills acquisition, employment generation via the promotion of the Akurulo investment model, etc.
Today’s event put paid to mischievous misinformation being peddled on social media as regards the authentic candidate of the Labour Party in the election.

Recall that some former members of the party had been misrepresenting clear court judgements and claiming to have been declared the candidates without proof.

And as Dr. Oti, Abia governor noted, indeed, any other claimant is fake.
Congratulating Achonu and Nwulu on the successful campaign flag-off, Ambassador Chibueze, Chief Coordinator of Concerned Imo Influencers, Achonu’s foremost support group, urged Imolites to cast their lot with the duo of Achonu and Nwulu.

According to him, the choice before the people was like choosing between darkness and light.

“The mammoth crowd that graced this occasion today is a pointer to the fact that Ndimo are about to choose the light over darkness. The Uzodinma-led APC government has plunged Imo State into deep darkness. The people now have a choice to choose the light that Sen. Athan Nneji Achonu brings or remain in darkness.

“They must rise against the spate of violence and wanton destruction of lives and property by the Uzodinma government, overtly or covertly.

“Imo needs a government that would not prevaricate or toy with the lives of the people. That is why they need to vote for their own candidate and resist imposition by anti-democratic elements. They must deploy every legitimate means to defend their votes during the electoral exercise.

“We urge the security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to be non-partisan and resist the usual urge to dance to the dictates of discredited and rejected politicians. They must ensure that agents of violence are fully restrained and prevented from sub eating the people’s will,” Chibueze said.
