Nigeria Hosts Largest Construction Event, Attracting 9,000 Professionals and 150 Exhibitors

The 4th edition of the Big 5 Construction Event, Nigeria’s largest construction exhibition, has successfully come to a close. Organized by Mehtap Gursoy, the event welcomed 9,000 construction professionals from Nigeria and 150 exhibitors from 20 different countries.
Nigeria’s construction industry is experiencing rapid growth, with a valued worth of $128 billion and a growth rate of 2.4%. The event played a crucial role in contributing to the country’s GDP and overall construction industry.
Mehtap Gursoy emphasized the event’s importance in bringing the construction industry together, providing opportunities for local companies to access cutting-edge technologies, best practices, and exhibitors. This year’s edition saw an increase in exhibitors and visitors, with plans to continue growing.
Eniafe Enianu Emmanuel, Builder/Project Manager at ENCON SHARON ENGINEERING SERVICES LIMITED, delivered a keynote address on innovative project management strategies for large-scale construction in Nigeria. He highlighted the need for Nigeria to adopt more large-scale construction projects, citing benefits such as technological adoption, economic growth, and job creation.
“Nigeria needs to diversify its construction projects beyond Lagos, addressing challenges such as flooding and workforce development,” Emmanuel stated. “Large-scale construction projects can curb flooding issues and create suitable environments.”
Toye Eniola, Executive Secretary of the Association of Housing Corporation, praised the event’s presentations and exhibitors but noted the industry’s persistent challenges. “Finance and policy implementation remain major hurdles. Corruption also undermines local construction companies’ effectiveness.”
Lara I. Chalabi, Managing Director of Octim Africa, showcased innovative ventilation solutions. “Our Fabric Dots technology revolutionizes air distribution systems, offering efficiency, affordability, and ease of installation.”
George Ukap, Quality Manager at Lafarge, introduced hydromedia concrete, designed to address water drainage challenges. “Our product allows for efficient water drainage, eliminating waterlogging in parking lots, road pavements, and gutters.”
The Big 5 Construction Event has underscored Nigeria’s potential for growth and innovation in the construction industry. Stakeholders emphasized collaboration, technology adoption, and policy stability as key drivers for progress.
