Lagos police present scorecard in crime fighting

The Lagos State Police Command has presented its scorecard in the fight against crime in the state.
Cataloging its achievements in the past one month in a press release, the command noted it had arrested a total of 66 suspects who had engaged in varying crimes, including armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, impersonation, cultism, murder, etc.
“From all these cases which we successfully cracked, we recovered a total of fourteen (14) firearms including two AK47 rifles, one of them locally fabricated, two (2) locally fabricated toy guns, fifteen (15) live cartridges, four (4) expended cartridges, twenty-five (25) live ammunition, five (5) machetes, thirty-four (34) bags of weed suspected to be Indian hemp. six (6) vehicle, two bags containing fake US Dollars, fake Pound Sterling note, two (2) award plaques from Buccaneer fraternity, one (1) Buccaneer banner, a pair of police camouflage uniform, a jack knife, police identity card, two hoods, black pipes some quantity of weed suspected to be Indian hemp and sixty-six kegs of fake Total engine oil.”
It gave a summary of the cases thus:
MURDER AND ARMED ROBBERY: On 3RD of August 2023 at about 2200hrs, based on intelligence gathering on the armed robbery incident around Airport hotel Ikeja that led to the brutal murder of a police officer and the carting away of his rifle, operatives of the Command embarked on a discreet investigation and arrested one Salami Ahmed ‘m’ aged 30, lsmaila Adio ‘m’ aged 22, Toheeb Muri aged 23, Seyi Olajide aged 24, Nelson Sunday ‘m’ aged 34 and James Nnamani ‘m’ aged 24 at their hideout in Alagbado and Amikanle areas of Lagos State.
One AK47 rifle with twenty-one rounds of live ammunition were recovered. This syndicate is also responsible for robbing a popular nightclub in lkeja on 19th of July 2023.
The Command uses this opportunity to advise individuals and companies seeking police services to follow the right channel to avoid falling into the wrong hands. To this end, I have set up a taskforce headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations to checkmate illegal duty by officers by identifying such officers and promptly arresting them for further disciplinary action. The taskforce has since commenced work.
IMPERSONATION AND UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARM: On 10th of August 2023 at about 1310 hrs, operatives of the Command arrested one Solomon Ochohepor ‘m’ aged 40 and Abu Ibrahim ‘m’ aged 47 for impersonation. The duo were impersonating as mobile police officers guarding an estate were arrested when they were trying to effect an arrest on a case reported by a lady who thought them to be genuine officers.
One fabricated AK47 rifle with three live ammunition, a pair of police camouflage uniforms, a jack knife and police identity card were recovered from the suspects.
RAID OF CRIMINAL HIDEOUT: On 9th of August 2023 between the hours of 0400 and 0600 hrs, based on intelligence gathering about the activities of criminal elements using Orile White-sand under bridge as hideout and other black spots within the community, operatives of the Command stormed the scene and arrested the following thirty-eight suspects: Aliu Babatunde ‘m’ aged IS, Amsa Ibrahim ‘m’ aged 35, Sodiq Musbau ‘m’ aged 21, Francis Omwuekhe ‘m’ aged 26, Kazeem Adisa ‘m’ aged 33, Yahaya lssa ‘m’ aged 33, Ibrahim Issa ‘m’ aged 25, Umaru Sanni ‘m’ aged 37, Umant Idris ‘m’ aged 37, Haruna Abdullah ‘m’ aged 19, Bairi Nafiu ‘m’ aged 22, Mykinta Muhammad ‘m’ aged
25, Emeka ikechukwu aged 35 Isaac Tobi Adebayo ‘m’ aged 37, Bright Ahamefuna ‘m’ aged 25 Babagana Kawu Adams ‘m’ aged 23, Ibrahim Muhammad Shetima ‘m’ aged 23, Abubakar Mygana ‘m’ aged 23, Muhammad Baba ‘m’ aged 24, Abdulrasheed Bello ‘m’ aged 28, Muri Olanrewaju ‘m’ aged 40, Sunday Olidusem ‘m’ aged 56, Babaginda Garba ‘m’ aged 32, Sulaiman Yusuf ‘m’ aged 30, Sunday Odeyemi ‘m’ aged 40, Saheed Abubakar ‘m’ aged 35, Godwin Emmanuel ‘m’ aged 32, Eyong Andrew ‘m’ aged 27, Adedayo Idowu ‘m’ aged 49, Kingsley Udeh ‘m’ aged 38, Joseph Ezekiel ‘m’ aged 27, Ali Muhammad ‘m’ aged 23, Abduljeli Fatai ‘m’ aged 20, lsmaila Amuda ‘m’ aged 28, Francis Kelvin ‘m’ aged 33, Jonathan Ezegboya ‘M’ aged 52, Kingsley Udeh ‘m’ aged 21 and Abdulsalam Abubakar ‘m’ aged 32.
Two machetes, two live cartridges, two hoods, black pipes, some quantity of weed suspected to be Indian hemp and two bags containing fake US Dollars and fake pound sterling notes were recovered.
SUSPECTED CULTISTS: On 18th of August 2023 at about 0200hrs, based on intelligence gathering on the activities of some suspected cultists, operatives of the Command raided their hideouts at Sabo Yaba and ijesha-Surulere area of Lagos State where one Daniel Ojo ‘m aged 35 and Giwa Quadri ‘m’ aged 36 were arrested.
The following items were recovered from both scenes: One (1) pump action rifle, one (1) locally made pistol, three (3) live cartridges, three (3) expended cartridges, three (3) branded machetes, two (2) award plaque from Buccaneer fraternity and one (1) Buccaneer banner among other incriminating items.
Investigation is ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members and recover their operational arms.
ATTEMPT TO COMMIT ARMED ROBBERY:
On 19th of August 2023, at about 1210 hrs, operatives of the Command arrested one Idris Bell0 ‘m’ aged 27 after receipt of a dishes~ all on an attempted robbery of a POS agent at Jibowu park in Yaba area of Lagos State. One locally made pistol with two live cartridges and one expended was recovered from the suspect.
CONSPIRACY AND ARMED ROBBERY: On the 14th of July 2023, at about 220 hrs, based on intelligence gathered on the activities of a gang specialized in robbing victims of their vehicles, operatives of the Command arrested one Okafor Nzubechukwu ‘m’ aged 38 in his hideout at Awoyaya-Ajah. One unregistered Black IS 250 Lexus SL1V, one unregistered Black Toyota Camry saloon car, one unregistered red Lexus ES 350 saloon car, one unregistered ash Toyota Camry saloon car, one unregistered ash Lexus RX 350 SUV and one unregistered ash Toyota Camry saloon car. Further investigation led to the arrest of the receivers Gbenga Olaoye ‘m’ aged 49 and Luka Gaiya ‘m’ aged 38 in FCT Abuja.
RECOVERY OF FIREARMS. On 16th of August 2023 at about 0700 hrs, operatives of the Command intercepted a motorcycle along Agbowa Ikorodu Road. The rider fled the scene upon sighting the police and abandoned his bag. Three pump action guns with six live cartridges, one double barrel gun and one locally made beretta pistol with one live ammunition were discovered in the bag.
UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF WEAPON: On the 19. in August 2023, at about 1010 hrs, based on credible intelligence that a young man was sighted with a gun around Iwaya Yaba area of Lagos State, Police operatives of the Command swung into action and arrested one Olusanya Olayemi ‘m’ aged 28. One locally fabricated toy gun was recovered from the suspect.
ARMED ROBBERY: On 31st of August 2023, at about 0120 hrs, operatives of the Command arrested one Solomon Tuku ‘m’ after receipt of a distress call on the ongoing robbery of a vehicle at Abraham Adesanya axis of Ajah area of Lagos State. Two locally made pistols with one live cartridge were recovered from the suspect.
UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF WEAPON: On the 25th of August 2023, at about 1830 hrs, based on credible intelligence that some group of boys were hibernating around Alabarago area of Lagos State, Police operatives of the Command swung into action and arrested one Chukwudi Stanley ‘m’ aged 28, lbraana Mohammed ‘m aged 25 and Christopher Amachukwu ‘m’ aged 29. One toy gun was recovered from the suspects.
ARMED ROBBERY: On 23rd of August 2023, at about 2015 hrs, operatives of the Command arrested one Adepoju Jaiyeoba ‘m aged 29 after receipt of a distress call on the robbery of a motorcycle at Alapere area of Lagos State. One locally made short gun with one live cartridge was recovered from the suspect.
RECOVERY OF FAKE ENGINE OIL: On 25. of August 2023 at about 1500 hrs, based on credible intelligence on the production of fake engine oil in Swiss Park Trade-fair International Market, operatives of the Command swung into action and one Obinna Kinsley ‘m’ and Patrick Ezenwnne Obinna ‘re aged 40 were arrested. Sixty-six kegs of fake engine oil with Total oil stickers were recovered from the suspect.
UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARM AND SUSPECTED CULTIST: On 30th of August 2023 at about 0500 hrs, operatives of the Command arrested one Ogbu Innocent `m’ aged 26, Adeoye Samson ‘m’ aged 30 and Yusuf Tajudeen ‘m’ aged 25 based on suspicious activity. When searched one locally made cut to size double barrel pistol was recovered from the suspects.
KIDNAPPING AND ARMED ROBBERY: On 20th of July 2023 at about 1830 hrs, operatives of the Command arrested one Femi Ariyo ‘m’ aged 43 after receipt of a petition alleging, him and one other for kidnapping and robbing them on June 26, 2023, around Gbagada area. Investigation revealed that Ariyo, a bus driver, and his conductor (still at large) are members of a one chance syndicate.
SUSPECTED CULTISTS: On 17th of August 2023 at about 1700 hrs, intelligence report gathered revealed that deadly, notorious, and wanted cultists known as ‘Aleeba’ and ‘Agbara’ who were involved in the killings of rival cult group members and innocent residents during cult related clashes in Isolo were spotted in their hideouts at Ayoobo and Atan area of Ogun state.
Police operatives of the Command swung into action and arrested one Busayo Emmanuel aka Aleeba m’ and Rahman Taiwo aka Agbara ‘m’ both aged 27.
Investigation revealed that Aleeba and other suspect are members of a
cult group while Aleeba is the second in command of the group.
Effort is ongoing to arrest other members of the group.
RECOVERY OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE: On 5th of August 2023 at about 0300 hrs, operatives of the Command intercepted a Toyota Sienna bus with registration number FST 26 HK along Mushin Road. The driver fled the scene upon sighting the police. Thirty-four bags of weed suspected to be Indian hemp were discovered in the vehicle.
The press release added that all the suspects would be arraigned at the conclusion of investigation.

It would be recalled that the newly set up enforcement team from the Headquarters headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police arrested fourteen miscreants on Friday, August 4, 2023 at Mile 2 twenty-two others on Tuesday August 8th, 2023 at the Apapa area of Lagos for Extorting motorists, especially truck drivers. It is to be noted that the operation is continuous and will be replicated in other part of the State. We have since expanded our capacity as we are now working with the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) and other stakeholders to bring a total stop to this menace. These miscreants and extortionist are strongly warned to desist from such nefarious activities as failure to heed this warning will lead to their arrest and prompt prosecution.
Meanwhile, I use this medium to assure Lagosians that the Command would continue to do everything operationally possible to ensure that crime and criminality is brought to the barest minimum in the State.
