A famous comedienne cum actress, Damilola Adekoya popularly called Princess, has recounted her experience with challenges after it became clear that Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka James also known as Baba Ijesha, sexually assaulted her child previously before he was caught.

Princess added that she became more depressed over the manner in which the case was been argued in court even after she had handed the Lagos State Police Command all vital evidence that could aid quick prosecution of the actor who had molested her 14-year-old foster daughter without anyone fighting for the girl.

The actress disclosed her battle with challenges while narrating how she and some of her colleagues and human rights activists supported her to get justice for the child on Thursday during an interview on a popular entertainment programme aired on the television station.

The revelation from the actress came barely a week after an Ikeja Special and Sexual Offences court sentenced the actor to 16 years imprisonment on different count charges that would run concurrently for five years.

Princess explained that though the judgement has been made and it came as a relief but the depression that occurred during prosecution and court proceedings was yet to be overcome, promising that efforts were ongoing to ensure becomes better.

The actress hinted that she was in the hospital when the court delivered judgement on the case, ending one year of back and forth at the police station, court and others.

The actor, Baba Ijesha, was arraigned on June 24, 2021 by the Lagos Police Command after thorough investigations which indicated that the actor could not be excluded from the crime.

She said: “I was in the hospital when the judge sentenced Baba Ijesha over his actions and the reason for my being in the hospital was because I was battling depression.

“I was depressed when the case was been dragged on too long and the situation became worse when I handed over the major evidence against Baba Ijesha to the Lagos Police Command as well as redeployment of the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) in charge of the case and replaced with another”.

She noted that efforts to quickly get over the challenges proved abortive after she realised the huge number of people involved in the case against Baba Ijesha and her case.

Princess further alleged that Baba Ijesha was a serial child molester with victims not only in the country but also in the United Kingdom (UK), and Dublin, Ireland

According to her, also, the efforts to downplay the issue and as the case progressed, I felt bad that the little girl needed my protection but I was not there to do that for her when she was molested.

She argued that no one should justify Baba Ijesha’s case nor castigate her for standing against a crime considering that some of the victims have been sent into lifelong trauma.

“I was not the one molested but I felt pained by the act, considering the trauma that the victims may be going through”, the multiple-awards-winning comedian added.

The actress, meanwhile, appealed to anyone that had been a victim of molestation and other sexual-related cases to speak out, assuring them that they would get justice in the case.

The judge at Ikeja special offences court Oluwatoyin Taiwo convicted Baba Ijesha of indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, and attempted sexual assault in a two-hour judgment.

Baba Ijesha faced a six-count charge of indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration, and sexual assault by penetration. The charges were proffered against him by the Lagos state directorate of public prosecutions (DPP).

The offences contravene Section 135, 137, 261, 202, 262 and 263 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015, which stipulates life imprisonment for offenders
