The Senator Athan Achonu Campaign Organisation has debunked reports on a section of the media purporting the sacki g of the Labour Party, LP, candidate for the Imo State governorship election in November, Senator Athan Nneji Achonu.

The said report claimed that the apex court had ordered the replacement of Achonu with Ikega Ukaegbu.

However, in a statement signed by Chibuikem Diala, Director, Media & Publicity, Senator Athan Achonu Campaign Organisation, the claim was utterly dismissed as spurious and the laughable product of unrepentant mischievous pranksters.

The statement read: “The attention of the Senator Athan Achonu Campaign Organisation has been drawn to yet another laughable contrivance of social media spin masters now spreading their habitual falsehood against the authentic gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party, LP, for the Imo State gubernatorial election in November, Sen. Athan Nneji Achonu.

“The so-called breaking news read:

‘”Supreme Court sacks Sen Athan Achonu (one hand General) Declares Ukaegbu (Ikenga Ikeduru) as authentic Governorship Candidate of Labor Party. Details and CTC of judgement loading.’

“For the avoidance of doubt and for purposes of clarification, we want to state categorically that the Supreme Court did not sack Senator Athan Achonu or indeed anybody else, during its sitting yesterday.

“The purveyors of the fake news should have gone further to disclose when the said judgement was passed and which of the Justices of the apex court sat, as well as the reason adduced for Achonu’s purported sack.”

Chibuikem appealed to the public to be wary of the misinformation they are being fed by the Ukaegbu group and their sponsors.

“We hereby appeal to members of the public not to take the tragicomic pranksters in the camp of Ukaegbu seriously because obviously nothing good shall ever come from them.

“Their mischievous stock in trade has remained to misinform and deceive the unwary members of the public in the hope that they would be pitied.

“Unfortunately for them, all their evil schemes have repeatedly come unstuck, as the divine candidature of Sen. Athan Nneji Achonu has been certified by the courts of the land.”

He reiterated the statement of the LP Chairman in Imo State, Barr. Callistus Ihejiagwa, who, in his speech at the inauguration of State Governorship Campaign Council, had explained that there was no such Supreme Court judgement anywhere that mentioned Senator Athan Achonu or the Labour Party and wondered where and how Ukaegbu and his boys shopped their judgement from.

According to Ihejiagwa: ‘”Senator Athan Achonu applied to the Supreme Court for joinder in the Basil Maduka Vs Ikenga Ukaegbu’s matter wherein his candidacy of the Labour Party was mentioned.

‘”However, as a result of the Court of Appeal in Owerri sitting in Abuja’s well-considered judgement last month where the judge in his wisdom said that Athan Achonu should not have bothered himself asking for joinder since this matter was between Basil Maduka and Ikenga Ukaegbu’s factions fighting between themselves.

‘”Given the above position of the court, our legal team went back to the Supreme Court yesterday 11/9/23 to withdraw the application for Joinder. Because the matter has been overtaken by events and has become academic there was no need to continue with the matter.

‘”It is important to restate that Ikenga and his propaganda team were nowhere near the Supreme Court yesterday. Rather, upon hearing that the Labour Party had withdrawn its appeal, Ikenga Ukaegbu and his gang of pedestrian followers ran to social media with their usual propaganda that the Supreme Court had ordered that Ikenga Ukaegbu replace Senator Athan Achonu.

‘”There was nowhere under the face of the earth where a matter concerning Labour Party or Senator Athan Achonu was mentioned at the Supreme Court yesterday; rather we went to withdraw our matter.”‘

The statement declared categorically that Achonu’s candidacy had been sealed.

“Let it be known that Sen. Athan Nneji Achonu remains the flag bearer of the Labour Party for the Imo State gubernatorial election on November 11. Anybody that allows Ukaegbu and his gang to deceive them shall be disappointed.

“We hasten to add that a new dawn is at hand for Ndi Imo. The people should rejoice and key in because Achonu’s project to ‘Recover Imo’ is very much on course. It is ‘Athanable'”.
