Ahead of the November 11 gubernatorial election in Imo State, Senator Athan Nneji Achonu, has continued his push to dislodge incumbent Governor Hope Uzodinma from the state Government House, called Douglas House.

Bouyer by his hugely successful campaign flag-off, which was witnesses by a mammoth crowd if supporters, including Peter Obi, Nigeria’s beacon of hope, Achonu on Saturday attended the grand finale of Owerri Business Week and assured youths of the state of greater days ahead in his government.
He described the event, which is a youth-led initiative that is helping to inspire the younger and indigenous entrepreneurs to do better in terms of business development, as quite an impressive learning experience.

Speaking on his Twitter handle, the Labour Party governorship candidate said: “As a businessman with diverse experiences, I understand the challenges small businesses face, hence my desire to continue to identify and support knowledge driven platforms like this.

“Owerri Business Conference syncs with the vision of Aku Ruo Ulo, as it is all about business development and investments in the state. I am for anything investment, development, and youth inclusivity, especially in small business development, which is a key aspect of our agenda for Imo State towards halving the current unemployment level within two years.

“This is achievable with smart business sense, excellence in leadership and unrelenting purpose to ensure enhanced ease of doing business in addition to projects that will help excite the youthful business hubs around the state.”

Achonu highlighted such projects in his plans for Imo State to include a creativity portal that aggregates all the creative businesses (creative wrts, entertainment, music, etc); Youth Creativity Hubs and Technology Parks in the three senatorial zones within one year as well as a start-up activity with a disbursement of N500m of a dedicated N10 billion Fund tied
to a structured innovation acceleration programme.

Achonu’s support does not come as a surprise because in the past 25 years and more, he had stubbornly advocated the Aku Ruo Ulo investment model, which he demonstrated with the humongous agro-allied investments in his village, Umunumo, in Ehime Mbano LGA.

According to him, the initiative is a good footing of what “Wealth that resides at home” should be. He urged Imo citizens, in fact, all Igbo across the globe, to bring home their wealth for investment.

A honu also promised to rid the state of l security challenges, which had imperilled development.

He declared that much in his manifesto, saying: “Perhaps the greatest challenge facing Imo State today is the breakdown of the internal security architecture, leading to widespread incidents of criminality in significant swathes of the state’s geography.

“No visible progress or achievement can be recorded in any sector if insecurity is not holistically addressed. Our incoming administration would address this challenge.

“My commitment to the common good has never been in doubt and it is my utmost belief that given the opportunity and privilege to serve you as governor, I would be completely dedicated to the development of our dear state by creating sustainable pathways and enabling environment for the return of normalcy to the security situation in Imo State, thus paving the way for increased investment in Igbo land. This is what I intend to offer.”
