The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division Nigerian Army (NA), Major General OC Ajunwa has tasked officers of the Division to leverage on the importance, objectives and benefits of the Officers Training Week which was held on 9 May 23, at the 9 Brigade Officers’ Mess, Ikeja Lagos.

The three days training with theme, ” Enhancing Operational Preparedness of Officers for Participation in Joint and Multi-agency Operations Within 81 Division AOR, ” was part of efforts to further build effective leadership skills among Officers within 81 Division.

Represented by the Division Training Officer, Brigadier General Oluwole Davies, the GOC in his opening remarks, noted that the lectures and topics were carefully selected to equip and also provide the platform to enhance command and leadership proficiency amongst Officers.

General Ajunwa said the training was designed as a form of mentorship for junior commanders through cross-fertilization of ideas and sharing Operations, command and field experiences. The GOC advised them to take advantage of the programme to build their leadership skills to enable them function optimally in their respective commands.

He thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya for his commitment and support in activating this year’s Officers’ Training Week and the Army Headquarters Department of Training for selecting an appropriate theme, considering it very apt in proffering solutions to contemporary security challenges in 81 Division AOR in particular and the country in general.

While he declared the event open earlier, the Special Guest of Honour and Commander, Corps of Supply and Transport, Major General Erema Akerejola, represented by Brigadier General Williams Etuk stated that in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s vision, “to Have a Professional Nigerian Army Ready to Accomplish Assigned Mission Within A Joint Environment in Defence of Nigeria”, described the training week as quite handy and the theme very apt.

He was optimistic that the participants are lucky to be part of the training week as it would improve their knowledge, skills and competence in military operations. General Akerejola enjoined the Officers to dedicate adequate time and efforts to ruminate on lectures delivered during the training sessions so as to enrich their chosen career as well as improve their overall performance in responding to situations in 81 Division and indeed the Nigerian Army.

The highlights of the events include, group photographs, robust interactive sessions and presentation of souvenirs to resource persons.

In his closing remark, the Special Guest of Honour, Major General
Kvedearat said the Week was no doubt a huge success; considering the quality of lectures and presentations by resource persons and level of interactive. I want to express my satisfaction with the pkipshion of all the participants as well, for taking active part by way of comments, observations, contributions and suggestions.

He commended the trainees for a job welldone saying, ‘As officers, you play a vital role in the education and development of our soldiers who are often deployed in the field alongside personnel of other Services and agencies.

‘ ‘This training was designed to equip you with the necessary skills, knowledge and strategies to improve your leadership capacity and enhance your optimal performance in the field.

‘ ‘I am confident that you have valuable insights and practical tips on how to improve your tactical, operational, admin and planning capacity. I urge you to apply what you have learned here in your military career and indeed your personal life while also sharing your experiences with your colleagues.”

He extended appreciation to the host, ” Let me also extend my appreciation to our host, ( Chief HIPPO) the General Officer Commanding 81 Division for his leadership style and doggedness towards training and development of his personnel. Also to be appreciated is the Local Organizing Committee for its untiring effort in ensuring a hitch free training week.

” Your commitment towards this excellent training is commendable and it will reflect in the quality and standard of knowledge you will also share with others later in future.” he wished them success in their chosen field, ” I wish you all, success in your military career and urge you to continue to strive for excellence in all you do.
