GOC 81 Division commends Nigerian Army’s Inter Brigade Corporal and Below competition

The General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Major General Mohamed T Usman has commended the initiative behind the 81 Division Inter Brigade Corporal and Below competition, describing it as a huge development for the Nigerian Army personnel.

35 Artillery Brigade
45 Engineering Brigade
81 Division Garrison
Troops of 9 Brigade Nigerian Army
Major General Usman Mohamed who is ably represented by 81 Division Training Officer , Brigadier General Oluwole B. Davis,said in his Opening Remarks that,”It is my pleasure this morning to be in your midst on this auspicious event.
” The Nigerian Army being a forward looking organization places huge premium on the development of its personnel and it is for this reason that the Army Headquarters releases a training directive to guide the training of its officers and men throughout the year.
” Today 16 April 2024 marks the beginning of the 81 Division Inter Brigade Corporal and below Competition 2024, which is one of the major competitions encapsulated in both the Nigerian Army and 81 Division Training Cycle for Year 2024.
” This emphasizes the importance the Nigerian Army and 81 Division places on training at lower level of command and leadership.
” This competition provides an avenue for Section Commanders
and below to showcase their leadership skills, proficiency in weapon handling, regimentation, navigation, esprit de corps and teamwork.
” It is therefore no coincidence that these are the components amongst others necessary to build the cadre of junior leaders for the Nigerian Army.
” I therefore enjoin participants to approach this competition with all seriousness required as there is no better time to demonstrate what you are capable of delivering when confronted with real live situations.
” At this juncture, let me thank the Chief of Army Staff whose cornered philosophy is the driving force for the Competition and also express our gratitude for providing the resources for the Division to hold the Competition.
” The Division will continue to strive in collaboration with other security agencies within its area of responsibility to secure lives and property in defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
” To the participants once again I enjoin you to give the competition the seriousness it requires, Compete fairly but keenly and show that you are all capable of making your respective formations and units as well as the Nigerian Army proud in all assigned tasks.
” To the umpires, I trust you will exhibit the Nigerian Army’s core value of integrity in your assessment and adhere to the principle of fairness. On behalf of the General Officer Commanding 81 Division, I hereby declare the 81 Division Inter Brigade Corporal and Below Competition 2024 open. I wish you good luck as you compete among yourselves.

The Brigade Commander ,Brigadier General AM Adetuyi said in his welcome address that,” I am most delighted to welcome you all to this remarkable occasion for the conduct of 81 Division Corporal and Below Competition Year 2024.
” The Corporal and Below Competition is aimed at enhancing the proficiency of troops at this cadre to prepare them for higher responsibilities.
” As such, in compliance with Army Headquarters Forecast of Events and the General Officer Commanding 81 Division’s Training Directive for Year 2024, 9 Brigade was tasked to host and participate with other formations in the Inter Brigade Corporal and Below Competition.
” This Brigade was therefore faced with the challenge of preparing a formidable team to compete with other formations as well as ensuring a successful hosting of the events. Permit me to state that adequate arrangements have been made in these regards.
“Additionally, all the venues earmarked for the various events have been properly prepared to meet the expected high standard.
” Accordingly, the Drill Competition will hold immediately after this Opening Ceremony.
” The Combat Swimming Competition will also take place later today at the National Stadium Surulere.
” Skill at Arms/Shooting Competition will hold at 81 Division Firing Range Ajilete Owode on Wednesday 17 April 2024, while, the map Reading/Communication exercise will hold on Thursday 18 April 2024 at the Nigerian Army Cantonment Ojo.
” Lastly, the obstacles Crossing/Physical Fitness Competition is scheduled along with the Closing Ceremony On Friday 19 April 2024 at the Lt Gen TY Buratai Sports Complex here a Nigerian Army Cantonment lkeja.
“As appropriate, all the participants and officials have been properly accommodated while adequate feeding and transportation arrangements have been put in place within the resources at the Brigade’s disposal.
” The medical teams have also been placed On standby for any emergency. On the whole, the Brigade is fully ready to ensure a successful exercise.
” May I therefore use this opportunity to express my gratitude on behalf of officers and soldiers of 9 Brigade, to the General Officer Commanding, Maj Gen MT Usman, for deeming the Brigade fit to host 81 Division Inter – Brigade Corporal and Below Competition for Year 2024, and for the resources provided for hosting this competition. It is also gratifying as the host formation commander to have an array of distinguished guests gathered for this auspicious occasion.
” I want to once again welcome you to the Nigerian Army Cantonment Ikeja, the home of Headquarters 9 Brigade, the formation of officers and soldiers that are “Fit to Fight”. Without any prejudice, I believe our men are set to prove this claim in this Competition while promising equal and high standard of hospitality for all participants in the next 4 days.
