Amid fuel scarcity, NNPC hikes pump price of petrol

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited has increased the pump prices for petrol for different parts of the country, for the first time ever.
This directive was contained in a notice addressed to fuel marketers with effective from Tuesday, July 19.
The price of the fuel has been increased from N165 per litre to a range of N169 to N184, depending on the region of Nigeria where it is being sold.
The lowest price point for petrol stations in Lagos is N169, while that for Abuja is N174.
In the South West, South-South and North Central, petrol will sell at N179. The price increases to N184 for the South East and North West, while the North East holds the highest price of N189.
In a related development, the NNPC also adjusted its ex-depot price for petrol from N148.17.
For Lagos, the price is between N160 to N162 per litre, while the Warri/Ogharra depot falls between the N162 – N165 range. The Port Harcourt depot is N165 – N167.
This development comes weeks after petrol scarcity resurfaced across the country. Meanwhile, a number of fuel retailers had already adopted different price bands to force unofficial deregulation attempts
