All is set to host the much advertised workshop for Media Practitioners, organised by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) in conjuction with Security stakeholders in the country.

A Media outreach event, the workshop is aimed at training and retraining journalists including editors, bloggers, Online platform operators, print and electronic news Practitioners and journalism and Mass Communication students as well as the general public with interest in the media space. This year’s edition is themed Role of Media, Security Agencies in Curbing Fake News, Cyber Threat and Sundry Security Challenges: Need to Destroy Menace Before It Destroys Us, and billed to hold at the LCCI Expo and Conference Centre, Alausa, Ikeja on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 by 10am.

The event, which is in its second edition will be parading notable personalities in the Security and media sectors including the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Lagos State Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Usman Ishaq Alfadarai; Head, Corporate Communications, Dangote Industries, Mr. Tony Chiejina; Media Consultant, FrieslandCampina, Dr. Kunle Hamilton; Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Hon Kingsley Olorunfemi Fanwo; Mr. Gboyega Akosile, Chairman, NBA-SPIDEL, Dr. Monday Ubani; FRSC Public Education Officer, SUPT Olabisi Sonusi, Mr. Matthew Ibadin, Oba Sdeoye, Cynthia Greg, and a host of others.

The Chairman, Organizing Committee of the event, Mr. Eric Elezuo, who is also the Public Relations Officer of the Association, has assured that this year’s edition comes with much more improved packages and reach as over 300 journalists, cutting across various media are expected to attend. In addition, certificates of participation will be given to every participant just as awards will be presented to guest speakers.

“This is inviting all journalists, students and the general public to attend this all important workshop to train, retrain and enlighten all and sundry on the rudiments of broadcasting, especially avoiding fake and unconfirmed stories, which tends to rip the very fabric of our collective existence.

“It is obvious that at this stage, we need not just curtail the spread of fake news, but kill it totally, otherwise, it will kill us,” Elezuo noted.

On his part, the President of the Association, Mr. Samson Oki, advised that it is more advisable to nip in the bud than to tend to manage a full blown crisis, and subsequently encouraged everyone to attend.

The workshop is supported by various brands including Dangote Industries, FrieslandCampina, Access Bank, Unity Bank, FirstBank, as well as security agencies including The Nigerian Police Force, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other.
