Senator Athan Nneji Achonu, SANA, the Labour Party, LP, gubernatorial candidate in Imo State, has decried the rising and unabating killings of innocent people in the state.

He also condemned the accompanying wanton destruction of public and private properties.

Condemning last week’s killing of the traditional ruler of Nguru Autonomous Community in Aboh-Mbaise Local Government Area, Eze James Nnamdi, the former lawmaker described the dastardly act in a statement, as “the abominable disregard for the sanctity of human life and defilement of our cherished traditional institution.

“I commiserate with the people of Nguru, Ndi Mbaise, and the entire Imolites on this yet another unwarranted killing of our people and urge the governor to rise to the occasion and save our people.”

He took a swipe at the state government for being clueless on how to deal with the situation.

“It is saddening that our state has recently descended into clear anarchy, where brutes run riot without any restraint and blood is spilled on a daily basis, with the current government apparently short of ideas on how to handle the situation,” Achonu said.

He told Imolites that the only guarantee for a safer and more prosperous Imo is to key into the “Take Back Imo” agenda of his campaign train.

“It is obvious from what is going on in our State that the current governor lacks ideas on how to tackle the incessant killings in the State.

“Whatever might be the case, I want to urge Imolites to stay committed to the “Take Back Imo” agenda, as we are set to bring back sanity and cleanse our State of all the madness currently going on in it,” Achonu added.

Meanwhile, the frontline governorship candidate has promised that he would industrialise Imo, enhance ease of doing business, priotise peace and security if given the mandate.

He spoke at the Imo State Congress of America (ISCA) Convention, in Houston Texas, on Saturday, 22nd of July, where he was invited to speak on his plans to govern Imo State.

Achonu spoke about his determination to take back Imo State from its current state to a leading sub-national government.

He added that his administration would build “two industrial layouts in each of the senatorial zones of the state as a way of catalysing industrialisation and economic development of the Eastern Heartland.”

The leading governorship candidate noted the industrial parks would help in attracting investments, inspire a vibrant manufacturing sector, foster creativity and provide the much-needed employment for citizens.

His plan includes partnering with the private sector to build pharmaceutical, agro-processing and light industries parks to serve the state.

Achonu further stated that Imo Airport was already designated as an international cargo airport but promised to ensure that it becomes viable, attractive to investors, generate employment as well as provide economic gains to the state.

According to him: “What we are going to do is to make it viable, create a strong business case, partner with local and international logistics companies to make the Sam Mbakwe Airport an outsourcing hub for the region and beyond. This is a long held business idea and I know if properly executed will no doubt make Imo Airport a credible alternative to the Lagos Airport and by that galvanize logistics services opportunities.”

Achonu, who shared with the participants his vision for leadership excellence, also made a firm commitment to protect all votes cast.

He told them that all he needs is for everyone to cast their votes, and he will protect them at the collation centre.

Thanking the organisers of the ISCA event for inviting him, he re-emphasised that peace and security is top priority in his agenda.

“All hands must be on deck to achieve this as I am confident that when elected, we will ensure that all Imolites can return to safe their communities once again,” he said.

The mood in I State is upbeat and people are enthusiastic and believe that with Achonu, and the Labour Party, the Imo rescue and restore project is ‘Athanable’.
