The Foundation For Investigative Journalism (FIJ), an online news medium, has said Major Datong who was abducted in the early hours of Tuesday, by armed bandits at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, is still alive, against initial reports of his death.
FIJ, in its report, said the name of the military officer is Christopher Datong, and not Stephen Datong as widely reported.
Several platforms (including Blackbox Nigeria) had erroneously reported that Datong’s body was found on Tuesday evening, hours after news went viral that his abductors reportedly demanded for N200million ransom for his release. Findings, however, show that the story is false.
“He is alive. This much I can confirm. As of 10pm on Tuesday, he was still alive — and this was hours after the circulation of reports of his death,” a source was quoted as saying by FIJ.
