The GTCO Fashion Weekend continued its showcase of top designers and creative talents, bringing together local and international models, including those who have made a mark on the runway scene in Nigeria. Models from diverse backgrounds, such as Okoh Naomi, Fathia, and Chinwe Otika, took part in this year’s Disco Fashion 2024 show, sharing insights into the realities and rewards of modeling.

Okoh Naomi, signed with Black Attitude Models Nigeria, returned to the runway for a second consecutive year. Reflecting on her journey, Naomi shared, “I started modeling around 2020, but I wasn’t serious about it. Last year, I committed fully, and now I’m doing well.” She praised GTBank for fair pay, saying, “In Nigeria, modeling doesn’t always pay well, but GTB pays their models well.” Balancing modeling with her studies as a final-year Industrial Chemistry student at Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Naomi encourages aspiring models: “Don’t sit at home, push yourself and move forward.”

Fathia, who has been modeling for four years, expressed the challenges of the competitive industry. “There are thousands of models, so you don’t always get the job, but when you do, it’s rewarding.” She emphasized the need for self-discipline: “You need to be fit, look good, and maintain healthy skin.” Attending her third Disco Fashion Weekend, she advised newcomers to “buckle their shoes and grab opportunities.”

Chinwe Otika, a seasoned model with over a decade of experience, described the GTCO Fashion Weekend as “magical,” applauding the collaboration of international and Nigerian talents. “The turnout is huge, and for GTCO, you don’t expect anything less.” Starting her career at 16, Chinwe, now 27, sees modeling as a lifelong passion and journey.
