EMBER MONTH: FRSC, SPECIAL MARSHALL, NDLEA, POLICE, ENGAGE IN JOINT PATROL

Lagos, Nigeria – September 21, 2024:In a bid to ensure safety on Nigerian roads during the ember months, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Special Marshall, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and Nigerian Police have launched a joint patrol operation.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Lekki Unit Command, brought together key stakeholders who expressed their commitment to the initiative. Sanni Abduliah, Commander of FRSC RS2.1 Lagos, welcomed dignitaries, including the State Coordinator of Special Marshall, Deputy Coordinator, and executives.
Abduliah highlighted the evolution of road safety efforts, from introducing FRSC to communities to converging commands in Abuja for enforcement, awareness, and rescue. “The idea of various marshals converging at commands, risking lives and struggling, is now practical and no longer a rehearsal,” he said.
The Deputy Commander of FRSC Command praised Special Marshalls for their selfless service and support to FRSC. “They assist us financially, materially, and in other ways,” he noted.
Akintan Olusegun, Lagos State Special Marshall State Coordinator, emphasized the need for combined operations due to the Dangote Refinery and ongoing construction, causing traffic congestion in the Lekki axis. “Traffic control is a daily activity, with the Lagos State Government’s road construction efforts and Federal Road Safety Arms of Marshall ensuring steady movement,” Olusegun explained.
Abdulrasheed Olabode, NDLEA, acknowledged FRSC’s collaboration: “Road Safety has been our friend, always supporting us in controlling traffic.” He stressed drug abuse as a key accident cause, urging lectures on classification and consequences. “Some commercial drivers take drugs, including pharmaceutical drugs that are abused, to keep them awake while driving,” Olabode said.
The joint patrol operation aims to reduce accidents and promote safe driving practices during the ember months. With the combined efforts of these agencies, commuters can expect improved road safety and enforcement.
