MAJOR GENERAL OYINLOLA URGES TROOPS TO UPHOLD DISCIPLINE AND SPORTSMANSHIP AS HE DECLARES OPEN THE 2025 CORPORAL AND BELOW COMPETITION IN TARABA STATE

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army/ Commander Operation Safe Haven, Major General Eyitayo Folusho Oyinlola, has charged troops of the Division to uphold discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship as he declared open the 2025 edition of the 3 Division Inter-Brigade Corporal and Below Competition today, 28 April 2025, at the 20 Model Battalion Parade Ground in Serti Baruwa, Taraba State.
Represented by the Commander 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, who served as the Special Guest of Honour, Major General Oyinlola emphasized the importance of giving their best while maintaining the highest standards of discipline and sportsmanship throughout the week-long competition.
“This competition is not just about winning; it is about learning, bonding, and building the strength that defines the Nigerian Army,” he stated, encouraging all participating Brigades to embrace the spirit of healthy rivalry and unity.
The GOC further highlighted that the annual competition, conducted across all Divisions of the Nigerian Army, is an integral part of the Army’s training calendar. It is meticulously designed to sharpen combat proficiency, leadership skills, organizational capability, endurance, teamwork, and, most importantly, foster unity and comradeship among junior soldiers. These attributes, he stressed, are essential for preparing troops to face the complex and evolving security challenges of the contemporary environment.
Major General Oyinlola noted that the competition aligns seamlessly with the Command Philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General OO Oluyede, which is: “To Consolidate the Transformation of the Nigerian Army Towards Bequeathing a Well-Motivated and Combat-Ready Force that can Effectively Discharge its Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment.”
In assuring the good people of Taraba State, General Oyinlola reiterated that 6 Brigade Nigerian Army remains fully committed to ensuring that criminals and enemies of peace have no hiding place within the state. “We remain steadfast in securing lives and property, and fostering an environment conducive to peace, growth, and development,” he added.
Participating Brigades in this year’s competition include 6 Brigade Jalingo, 23 Brigade Yola, 33 Artillery Brigade Bauchi, as well as 3 Division Garrison Jos, 43 Engineer Brigade, and 53 Signal Brigade, all under the 3 Division Nigerian Army.
The formations will compete in a range of activities including Drills, Map Reading Exercises, Swimming, Cross Country Runs, Weapons Handling, and Obstacle Crossing.
The opening ceremony was well attended by the Honourable Chairman of Gashaka Local Government Area, heads of paramilitary and other security agencies within the state, the Lamdo of Gashaka, Commanding Officers from various units, and other distinguished guests.
